Exeter Fine Dining Pub Restaurant, Welcome to The Jack In The Green

The Jack In The Green near Exeter needs little or no introduction to those in the know. Numerous accolades from independent critics as one of Exeter's best fine dining restaurants, underpinned by two AA rosettes and praise from Michelin and the Good Food Guide, is testament to the passion and skill that emanates from the kitchen of Head Chef Matthew Mason.

In 2006 the team won a Gold at the Taste of the West Food & Drink Awards and took the top prize for Best Dining Pub in Devon Life's Food & Drink Awards. In March last year, Matthew won the South West Chef of the Year, in October the restaurant retained its Gold from Taste of the West (Devon Dining Pub) and on November 1st Devon Life honoured Matthew as their Devon 'Chef of the Year'. The restaurant was also a finalist in the 'Taste of the South West' category of the annual Enjoy England Excellence Awards and won an AA Regional Food Award in September for its commitment to using local produce.

The whole operation centres around ingredients that are a privilege to handle. Delivered daily by a dozen or so dedicated suppliers, their undisguised enthusiasm and zest for what they do can't help but to shine through. Serving the bland, limp or jaded has never entered our minds. The philosophy is to produce top quality but unpretentious food, beautifully cooked with great attention to detail and to provide an ambience of comfortable hospitality. When the basic ingredients are this good the cooking doesn't need to be complicated.

By far and away the most poplar dessert of last year was our Sticky Toffee Pudding. To help support our chosen South West charity for this year, we will continue to donate 50 pence from every single one of these sold to the Wooden Spoon in Exeter - the Rugby's Association's charity that supports mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children and young people. The Jack is also one of the Wooden Spoon's Devon 1st XV - a line up of the most supportive and proactive of their sponsors. The total amount raised for 2007 was £1,713 which equates to a whopping 3,426 sticky toffee puddings. Already by the end of February this year we sold another 596!

The Jack also offers superb Exeter conference facilities well suited for a broad range of Exeter business meetings and located conveniently for almost any business in the South West.
