O'Hanlon's Brewery
O'Hanlon's are best described as a micro brewery that produce top quality hand made ales to the highest craft brewing standards. The company was initially set up in a Vauxhall railway arch purely to supply John & Liz's Islington pub, but very soon enquiries from other retail outlets led them to concentrate all their efforts on brewing. Before long they decided to sell the pub and move to an old house in Devon, which while derelict, had spring water of the best possible quality for making beer!
Since moving to Great Barton Farm at Whimple in 2000, O'Hanlon’s has gone from strength to strength, winning the SIBA Wheat Beer of Britain award for the second time and gaining not only a Silver medal in the World Beer Cup with Port Stout, but also winning the Guardian/CAMRA Bottle Conditioned Beer of Britain. Today, however, the highest accolade of them all; O'Hanlon's Thomas Hardy, recreated from the original recipe has been declared Supreme Champion in the International Beer Challenge, a global competition to select the top 50 beers worldwide.
The Jack are proud to serve O'Hanlon's "Yellow Hammer", a delicious, light ale with a 4.2% ABV that has won the Silver medal for the "Best Draught Ale" three years running in 2003, 2004 & 2005 at the prestigious Tuckers Maltings Beer Festival. "Golden Ale that's so flavour packed, it’s bursting, if’s that’s not to poncy a term" enthused FHM magazine Top 100 Beers panel. Even better still, the twenty or so barrels that we go through each year only have to travel five miles to reach us.
