Community Support
The Jack has been an extremely loyal supporter of the Wooden Spoon charity for many years now.
The Wooden Spoon is the Rugby Association’s chosen charity, established in 1990 and dedicated to helping underprivileged children and young people all over the UK and Ireland to live happier, richer lives. All of the money raised within the South West stays in the South West.
Matthew and Paul will be running the London Marathon on April 17th to help the Jack reach its Wooden Spoon target of £10,000 for this year. Both are now training hard around the roads of East Devon in preparation for the big day. A special gourmet charity dinner is also planned for March 2nd to raise extra money.
Throughout the year, assistance is also given to a number of other local charities, schools, colleges, community groups and sports clubs like Sidmouth Juniors and Exmouth Rugby Club.
Matthew also helps to teach the children of nearby West Hill Primary School about food, freshness and seasonality in an ongoing partnership that started in 2007. Trips so far have included visits to Darts Farm and Quickes Cheeses and several trips into West Hill to teach useful skills such as bread making.
